I think about it and want to do it, but when the day is done and I have a few spare moments, it's not high enough on the priority list to require action. So, in keeping with my Relief Society lesson that we need to slow down and evaluate what is truly important in our lives, I have decided to let my "tight like unto a dish" blog sail quietly away into obscurity. I enjoy writing it, but I don't enjoy the sense of guilt or neglect that I have when I don't. I am in no way shape or form saying that blogging is a waste of time or unimportant because I learn new things all the time from those who are willing to put their knowledge out there on a blog. All I'm saying is that for me, at this point in my life, this blog is an "extra", something that can be let go, fairly painlessly, to relieve the stress of feeling like I have to do it all, be it all, have it all.
Thanks for the laughs and the tears and putting up with my insanity! I'll still be around, going through all the same old stuff . . . .just a little more quietly,Chelseahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16844597193520880657noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6776654750452579889.post-77858274291664163802010-09-24T20:19:00.000-07:002010-09-24T21:20:31.079-07:00I go from the 5th to the 24th without any updates . . . I really am trying to get better at this! Let's see if I can remember what has happened since then.

Since we have so many birthdays in the family in September, we decided a few years ago to celebrate them all together. We got together with Mom and Dad Sherwood, Mom and Dad Theurer, Jason, Andi, Justis and Nia at my parents house for dinner and dessert. The kids got to run around and play outside, which they always LOVE. For dessert, I had a craving that morning for doughnuts so I had the idea to do a doughnut bar. I made the doughnut dough and we fried them fresh, then everyone could chooose which glaze they wanted (maple, vanilla or chocolate) and then a bunch of toppings to dip in (sprinkles, mini chocolate chips, coconut, toffee pieces). It was so much fun and sooooo yummy! Who doesn't love fried food? Horribly bad for you but oh so delicious!

The other big thing going on around here is that Kadin started preschool a couple weeks ago. He is loving it and so am I! We were going to put him into the pre-K program at the local elementary, but due to budget cuts the program got canceled. So after talking to a bunch of people, we decided to go with a preschool run by the church down the road from us. They have a great program and some of Kadin's friends from the ward were going to be there. We went to the parent orentiation and got their full missionary effort. We got invited to their worship service, song service, potluck dinner, coffee hour, and I'm sure a few other things I forgot. I can definetely tell it's a church-based preschool because nearly every handout he brings home has something about God or Jesus. He is having a great time and loves going, even though I have no idea what he does beyond snack time and play on the playground (every time I ask him what he did in class, those are the two answers I get.).

The time that Kadin is at preschool is a great chance for me to get some work done on the many projects I have in progress. I frequently find myself wishing that I had a craft room to work in so I could leave them all out in their various states of chaos, but I have to put them back into some semblance of order before they start to take over our bedroom (it's getting close). I've got the kid's Halloween costumes to finish, some holiday decorations for the house and a TON of stuff for Christmas. Yes, I am already working on Christmas stuff. Trust me, I will need all the time I can get if I am going to get all my plans done.

The weather has been so weird around here lately, sunny one day and rainy the next. This week started out kind of cold and drippy and I got pretty drippy myself. I blamed it on the change in weather and a recent run of late nights (staying up with Jeremy trying to catch up on Season 1 of Glee before we start watching Season 2), but I just kept going downhill. It started on Tuesday and by Thursday I was miserable. I could barely breathe out of my nose and my whole body felt like I had been beat with a stick. I seriously wondered if I had caught the flu somewhere. Then I had an awful realization. When I was filling my weeks pill organizer (yes, I am that lame, I have so many pills to take in the morning that I just throw them all together so I don't have to open a million bottles), I had forgotten to put in my prednisone. Such a small pill and yet it makes such a difference. I was surprised at how drastically my health changed in just a couple days. It was just another confirmation of how much I truly do depend on that drug; nasty side-effects and all. Even though I hate the side-effects, I am grateful that I have something that gives me a somewhat normal life.

Hopefully sometime soon I will get the pictures off my camera and uploaded to Picasa . . . just one more thing on my to-do list!Chelseahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16844597193520880657noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6776654750452579889.post-85764463700349835612010-09-05T10:58:00.001-07:002010-09-05T11:20:32.876-07:00After what feels like the shortest summer ever, September is here already. It's been a fun week with Aimie and Jaxon in town; wish they lived closer so we could get together more than once a year! We took the kids to Out of This World so they could run around and play while it was gray and drizzly outside. The boys had a fantastic time playing on the bigger play structures (Kadin had to give Jaxon a boost up some of the stairs) and Kylee would have been content to slide down the baby slide all day long. All the kids were worn out by the time we left at lunch time; just what we were hoping would happen!

Wednesday we got together with Andi, Justis, and Nia and took the kids to OMSI for the day. I haven't been there since I was a little kid and it was a lot of fun to go back and see all the new stuff they have in there. Upstairs they have a kids area with bubbles and water and sand . . . we could probably have camped out there for the day and the kids would have had plenty to do. When we took the kids downstairs to the rocket/machinery exhibit, we had a little bit of a scare when Jaxon ran off to see something exciting. With so many kids, we kind of lost track of who was watching who and no one saw where he darted off to. Luckily, he didn't go too far and we found him, but it got us all a little worried for a bit (I think Aimie was more than a little worried, which is totally understandable). After that, I took the kids over to visit Jeremy at work. It was fun to get to see him in the middle of the day and I think the kids really enjoyed seeing where Daddy goes everyday.

On Friday, I was feeling antsy being in the house so I spontaneously decided to take the kids out to Woodburn to see if they had any good Labor Day sales on fall clothes for the kids. I haven't ever really taken the kids somewhere like that by myself before so I was a little nervous how that would go. Kadin has a tendency to get impatient with running errands and Kylee can only handle being in the stroller for so long. Thankfully, they both fell asleep on the way out there so they weren't super tired and grumpy when we got there. I had my own lost child scare in Gymboree after Kadin wandered away from the child's play area and I couldn't find him for a few minutes. He popped out from behind a clothes rack with a huge smile on his face and said "Here I am Mommy!" I was torn between relief at seeing him safe and anger at him being disobedient and wandering away. I guess that's always the mix with kids; lots of love and lots of frustration.

Saturday we took the family up to Vancouver for the day. Mom, Dad, Aimie and Jaxon met us there and then Mom, Andi, Aimie and I took off for a little girl's time away. After the crazy few weeks we have had with Jeremy being gone at meetings or working late or whatever, I really needed a break and some grown-up time and it was so fun to spend it with them. We went to lunch at Olive Garden (their salad always makes me happy) and then just wandered around Vancouver Mall. It has been a long time since I just got to wander a mall and window shop with out kids or husband hurrying me along and it was nice to just hang out for a little bit. But, we had to get back because the boys wanted to watch the BYU football game and they didn't thinkl that babysitting kids made for the optimum watching situation (which I totally get). It was a really fun day, but by the end our kids were exhausted and grumpy and we all crashed as soon as we got home.

For the public school kids, school starts this week, but we have one more week before Kadin starts preschool. We signed him up at Bethlehem Lutheran down the street from us and he is really excited about going to a new class. He will be going with some of his friends from church, which will be nice for him to know some people already. I am excited for those couple of hours with just one child again! Not that I don't adore Kadin, but he is extremely high energy and most of the time I am not, so a breather every now and again is always appreciated! We went and got his school supplies this week; he is in love with his Iron Man backpack. It's fun to see him experience the excitement of school and getting ready for a new year. Hopefully, he has a great time and continues to love school.Chelseahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16844597193520880657noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6776654750452579889.post-63478392474509627762010-08-30T21:22:00.000-07:002010-08-30T21:46:01.067-07:00Let goI am a book junkie. I'll admit it; I have an addiction to books. I have a list of books I would like to read that is ALWAYS growing. The list grows every time I go to Costco (I would hate to see what it would all add up to if I actually bought every book that I thought looked interesting or worth reading), read the newspaper (I love reading the book review sections), flip through a magazine in the checkout line . . . pretty much anywhere. More often than not, I will go and request the books through our local library so I can see if they are worth it without breaking the bank (I bet Jeremy is grateful for that). There have been more than a few times I have taken a book back without getting past the first 50 pages, glad the only investment I made was my time.

One of these recent reads I got from the newspaper book reviews, I think. It's called "Confessions of a Slacker Wife" the follow-up to "Confessions of a Slacker Mom". They looked intriguing, so I put in a request and picked them up a few weeks later. They are both incredibly funny and, I think, incredibly insightful into the lives of women as both wives and mothers. The author, Muffy Mead-Ferro (how can you not love someone with the name "Muffy"?), is a total straight shooter and says things that I would bet most women are thinking but don't want to say because they don't want to be thought less of (or maybe it's just me).

The one thing that really stuck out to me was that we, as women, feel that if we are going to do something, we have to do it to a level that will wow the socks off everyone. I feel this way COMPLETELY! If I am going to make a birthday cake, it should look like it belongs on a Food Network Challenge. If I am going to sew a dress for Kylee, it should qualify to be in the next Children's Place catalog. If I am going to scrapbook, then the work I do should be getting published all over the place. If the things I do don't meet this criteria then what's the point? Sadly, I get way to caught up in this frame of mind and drive myself INSANE trying to be amazing at everything. I completely forget why it is that I do these things in the first place; because I enjoy them!!! I love to bake because I enjoy the mixing and measuring and exactness of it all and I certainly don't mind eating the delicious results. I enjoy sewing for the same reason; the measuring and matching pieces and coming out with a finished product that I think is cute and original. I enjoy scrapbooking because I can look back on all our great memories and make them even more beautiful for us to enjoy again and again. With this perfectionist veiwpoint, these activities are creating more stress than they are relieving it (which kind of defeats the purpose of them).

So I have decided to try and talk myself down from my ledge and remind myself to just LET GO. I don't have to have matching hairbows for each of Kylee's outfits and Kadin will love a cake frosted with plain old frosting just as much as one covered in fondant. If I do choose to tackle any of these projects, it will be because I want to, for fun, and not because I am trying to be Super-Mom and show everyone just how amazing I can be. I need to make the commitment now because I know, as we roll into the holiday season, my over-achieving, perfectionist tendencies will kick in and I will go bananas trying to make the perfect centerpiece for my table to coordinate with my tree decorations, and the new throw pillows I am sewing. Just repeat over and over . . . . let go, let go, let go.Chelseahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16844597193520880657noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6776654750452579889.post-60336331483017978222010-08-25T20:43:00.000-07:002010-08-25T21:26:34.831-07:00One of THOSE days . . .If you asked me last night, I would have told you that I was having a pretty good week. I have been consistent with keeping up with my scripture reading, family home evening, exercising, keeping the house fairly clean . . . . I was on top of things!!! Then we hit this morning; OUCH!

Kadin has been getting up REALLY early; like pre-6 am early. So we decided that we were going to start setting his alarm again. Instead of setting his alarm to wake him up, we set it for 6:45 or 7 and tell him that he can't leave his room until he hears the music. He can turn on his light and play with his toys quietly, but he can't come out until then. This morning was a little rough, trying to get back into the habit, but we made it. Then we went downstairs and got some breakfast. I really wanted to watch Good Morning America this morning because I have felt so out of touch with the outside world (I joke that if it's not on Disney channel, I don't hear about it). So I told Kadin that after I watched a Mommy show for a little bit, he could watch his Kadin show. That did not go over very well. He whined and screamed and hit . . . which resulted in timeout and him losing the privilege of watching any show. Needless to say, with things going as "smoothly" as they were, I didn't even bother trying to get my workout in.

After getting dressed for the day and doing some chores, we decided to go to playgroup. It was at Magnolia Park and I thought it would be good to let the kids run around in the fountain and just get some energy out. Kylee pitched a fit the whole way there, which was fabulous fun. Kadin was all about it and couldn't wait to get in the water. Kylee was all about the swings, which was alright for a little bit because I could keep an eye on Kadin. Then I had the audacity to try and spray her with sunscreen. She lost it in a major way. Back arching, screaming, kicking; the whole nine yards. I didn't want to keep fighting her (she was starting to bang her head on the rock wall) so I packed the kids up and came home. Kylee screamed the whole way home, so by the time we got there, I was feeling pretty irritable. And it was only going to get better.

Kylee went down for her nap, Kadin got to watch some Ben 10 and then I told him we were going to have quiet time. I would love for a little break in the middle of the day and I think Kadin needs to get better at spending time playing alone and not being dependent on me to keep him entertained and amused. I set his alarm again and told him that he could play in his room and I would go in mine and we would have quiet time until his alarm went off. We did pretty well until his alarm went off early and then I had some trouble getting him to go back in his room. Finally, he went but not without more kicking and screaming. Thankfully he fell asleep!!!

After the kids woke up from their nap, we went to the library to pick up some books we had on hold and return some stuff. Kylee again SCREAMED the whole way there again. Long story short, Kylee screamed in the library, refused to go where I asked and Kadin had a HUGE accident on the chair by the kid's computer. so we rushed home, with me being totally frazzled and frustrated.

After coming home from the library, I thought we would try to redeem the day by taking the kids out on the back porch and letting them paint. Needless to say, in keeping with the theme of the day, it did not go well. Kylee continued with her screaming, Kadin continued with his whining and disobedience and by the time Jeremy got home, I was at THE END!!!

I know that this day is nothing that every mother hasn't experienced at least once and I'm sure I will have many more days like this. Hopefully, they will be few and far between, and I can keep perspective in the middle of them. For now, I am glad it's over and we can start fresh tomorrow.Chelseahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16844597193520880657noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6776654750452579889.post-52169912098343733312010-08-22T20:05:00.001-07:002010-08-22T20:22:55.520-07:00Live to fight another dayEarlier this week, I decided to try limiting Kylee's binky use to only when she is sleeping. I was tentatively hoping that it would go somewhat smoothly, like Kadin did, but I was soooooo wrong. The first couple days were ok, just a little fussing and whining, but about mid-week, she LOST it. Every morning when I would take the binky from her, she would arch her back and scream. Unconsolable screaming for at least a half-an-hour. Same routine at naptime. So finally on Thursday or Friday, I just gave up and she is now the proud (re)owner of her beloved binky. She keeps an extra close eye on them lately; I think she is suspicious I am going to try and take them away again.

Aimie came into town this week for a quick stop-over on her way down to Medford. While Jeff is doing a rotation in Pennsylvania, she is staying in Oregon with her in-laws and Mom and Dad Sherwood. The kids and I stopped over on Tuesday night to say hi. She is looking super cute, with a cute little round pregnant tummy! Jaxon has gotten so big since we saw him last. He didn't seem to remember us and was a little hesistant about having us there. But within five minutes he and Kadin were wrestling on the floor and having the best time. I'm excited for her to come back this weekend and hang out for a while.

Last night we went up to Jason and Andi's house for a Sherwood family BBQ. It was a lot of fun to hang out there and let the kids play together. Nia was so great with Kylee and Kadin always has a blast with Justis. Kylee was kind of grumpy; I thought it was just because she hadn't really taken a nap that day, but it turns out that it was the beginning of a virus. She had a HORRIBLE night on Friday (Jeremy and I took it in turns to sit up with her on the couch because she refused to sleep in her bed) so we took her in to the doctor on Saturday. He said she had a virus and there was really nothing we could do but wait it out. So this weekend has been pretty lazy; a lot of snuggling on the couch and movies.

With my stellar immune system, I of course picked up her bug almost immediately. I was pretty sniffly and feeling gross today, so Kylee and I stayed home from church. To add insult to injury, while I was making Choffy this morning, I bumped the measuring cup coming out of the microwave and splashed boiling water all over my hand. It is NOT easy trying to wipe your nose, snuggle a baby and hold an ice pack with one hand. Luckily, it wasn't too bad and it has gone down to a slight sting instead of an insane burn.

I am already starting to think of Halloween and Christmas . . . and school hasn't even started!!! I want them to hurry up and get here because I have a lot of fun ideas that I want to do this year, but on the other hand, I need all the time I can get beforehand!

The other fun project on the docket (because I just don't have enough to do) is that Jeremy and I are talking about repainting the house. It started with me wanting to repaint Kylee's room and then Jeremy suggested doing our bedroom and the living room while we were at it. I have a really fun plan for Kylee's room and we are 90% sure about the color for downstairs. I have an idea for our bedroom, but I don't know if Jeremy is sold on it yet. Should be fun to see how it all turns out!Chelseahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16844597193520880657noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6776654750452579889.post-32212689914226599092010-08-16T19:52:00.000-07:002010-08-16T20:27:26.400-07:00Life is like a roller-coaster . . . so cliche and so overused, but so true. I go through the up of feeling like I am in control and things are running smoothly to the down of frustration and overwhelming stress. Looking at the moments of the day, I would probably say that it wasn't such a great day. But now sitting here, thinking back, it can say that it has been an up day.

Today I decided to not use the TV as a fall-back when the kids are whining and driving me nutso. Usually when Kylee takes a nap, I put on a movie for Kadin and let him watch while I doze off. Today I suggested doing other things, like playing games or reading stories. He did not take it well. Kadin has been going through a rough patch with attittude lately. He starts the day off whining and it doesn't let up for the majority of the day. For some reason his default setting is on "high-pitched whine" and it makes it REALLY hard to stay patient and not scream. But I think part of it has also been my fault; on the days when I don't feel so good, it is easier to take the easy way out and give in rather than pointlessly argue with him. Sure, it's easy, but it causes more problems in the long run. People always say that being a mom is the hardest job in the world, but I would probably have been fired by now. I plan on making more of an effort to not just take the easy way, but do the best thing for our family and kids.

In that spirit, we had Family Home Evening tonight for the first time in a long time (like so long, I think that it was the FIRST time we had it since Kadin was born). We talked about prayer and used Kadin's train set to show how each part of the prayer is a part of the train. Kadin got restless and lost his attention about halfway through, but for the first time I think we did ok. I'm hoping that the more we do it, the better it will get.

Beyond today, we took the kids to Big Truck Day at the local rec center and Kadin had a great time. I think it would have been better if it wasn't ridiculously HOT and we felt like we were melting. Kadin got to climb in the driver's seat and honk the horn of lots of trucks.

If you want to check out our last few months in pictures here are some links:
July
August
Victoria B.C. Chelseahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16844597193520880657noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6776654750452579889.post-9757730768109950792010-08-12T21:04:00.000-07:002010-08-12T21:05:09.850-07:00Picking Blueberries

Today my mom and I took the kids to pick some blueberries and it was a great time. Kadin got really into it and was very careful about only picking the blue ones (he reminded my mom and me about this fact several times). Kylee was a little bit more impatient with the whole affair, faily interested in the buckets at the beginning but then pitching a fit and tossing them around (losing several handfuls of blueberries in the process).

I am trying to play around with my camera a little more and take more "artistic" and interesting pictures rather than just the standard shot. I was inspired by my sister-in-law, Molly, on our family vacation. She takes amazing pictures and tried to give my mom and me a short tutorial on how to take better pictures and use all the tricky functions on our cameras. It's one of my goals to learn how to use my camera more; since Jeremy got me such a great one, I might as well learn how to use it! I am also playing around some in Picasa to edit them differently. Once I get comfortable there, maybe I'll work my way up to PSE . . . we'll see. I'm still a little intimidated from playing around with the trial version. I'll get there!!!

Chelseahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16844597193520880657noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6776654750452579889.post-65489644177277516712010-08-08T18:13:00.000-07:002010-08-08T18:24:00.029-07:00Revamp and restartThe past couple days I have been listening to some digital scrapbooking podcasts in the car while I run errands and one of them was about incorporating blogging into digital scrapbooking. It really made me think about my poor neglected blog and why I started it in the first place. I have tried different ways of keeping a journal and it always ends up shoved in the back of a drawer or an unopened file on my computer. But for the same reason that I started scrapbooking, journaling is important to me. I want to remember. I want to hang on to all the little moments that make life was it is; the hilarious things that Kadin says out of the blue, the new things that Kylee learns each day, the frustrations of being a stay-at-home mom. So I am revamping my blog and restarting with my resolution to keep writing. I'm hoping that the accountability of having other people read what I write will help me keep up with it!!!!Chelseahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16844597193520880657noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6776654750452579889.post-83682802889411302502009-09-08T20:16:00.000-07:002009-09-08T20:37:51.191-07:00Tender merciesTender mercies . . . I have seen a lot of these in my life recently. Whether it has been in a book I have read, and Ensign article, or something someone has said, I have had the answer, reassurance or comfort I needed when I needed it.

Recently, I attended the funeral of a family friend. The feeling at the funeral was a mix of sadness and . . . I wouldn't say joy, because I don't think anyone feels joy at the death of a loved one, but there was something of relief because he had been fighting ALS for the last three years and was deteriorating rapidly. There were wonderful things said about him but the thing that really hit me was something that his wife said during her remarks. She was talking about their early life together and how difficult it was for her with young children at home. She spoke about feeling restless and agitated with her life, thinking that this was not the direction that she envisioned for her life. Then she talked about how she woke up one morning and made a conscious choice to choose joy. Those words really stood out to me, "CHOOSE JOY". I can sit aaround waiting for the stars to align and everything to work out like a Disney movie, or I can look at the life I have (which is pretty dang good when I sit down and think about it) and find the joy already there.

I have been making an effort to "choose joy" lately and it really has made a difference. I feel happier, more able to tackle the difficulties that inevitably come, and I feel like my relationship with my kids and husband is going so much more smoothly. I am making a cute crafty sign for my bathroom to remind me every day that joy is a choice and one I am going to make!Chelseahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16844597193520880657noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6776654750452579889.post-44997084725160117652009-08-14T20:27:00.000-07:002009-08-14T21:35:58.043-07:00July and August (so far)Wow, I just realized that it has been a LONG time since I have updated this! But it all makes sense when I look back and see what the last few months have been full of . . . holidays, a wedding, a few birthdays, and just plain life! So here are some quick photo highlights of life since the last post.

Kylee has learned a new trick; sticking her foot in her mouth. It looks incredibly painful, but she seems to enjoy it!Kylee is looking cute and ready for a dip in the pool!

I set the timer on the camera to capture this moment with Kadin in our kiddie pool on the deck. We spent quite a bit of time in that pool when the temperatures hit the 100's for a while.

Jordan came home for the 4th of July weekend and he spent a bunch of time with Kadin, particularly getting him to expand his eating habits.

Kadin had a great time digging in the sand pit right outside the front door of our beach house.

I admit it, I am one of those dorky mothers who dress their kids up for every holiday. It was SOOOOO hot that day, we were all melting!

Because of the heat, Jordan and Molly had Otter Pops at their reception. What a great idea! It was certainly appreciated by Kadin, who had about 10, I think. By the way, doesn't he look studly in his little orange tie? Funny story: I asked Ben and Devin to get the kids dressed up in their nice clothes while we were in the temple during the sealing and when I came out, Kadin ran up to me and proudly told me "I loook 'sax-y'". Apparently, his uncles had thought it would be funny to teach him to say he looked sexy. Now whenever he sees the orange tie, he tells me how "sax-y" he looks in it.

I just love this picture!

The boys have a constant competition going on about who is the favorite uncle, but I think they have met their match. Kadin immediately latched on to Molly and followed her EVERYWHERE! Jordan gets points for being married to her, but the other two . . . better step up your game!

Playing in the pool at grandma's house. I have started another blog. I know; one is enough right? Well, this one is solely for my reading habit . . . addiction . . . obsession . . . however you choose to categorize it! I will talk about what I am currently reading, what I think about it and any books that spark my interest. Come visit!
http://chelseabookshelf.blogspot.com/Chelseahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16844597193520880657noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6776654750452579889.post-58863304339808387542009-06-21T17:05:00.001-07:002009-06-21T20:15:17.572-07:00My oddball child
I got Kadin a little pool for our back deck because it has been so hot lately, and he loves to play in the water. It took a couple days for us to find the time to set it up, but we got it filled on Saturday. Of course Saturday was the day that it decided to cloud up and get cold. That didn't stop Kadin from wanting to get in! So he suited up and climbed in. Undaunted by the cold, he splashed around for a while and probably would have kept going if we didn't pull him out (the chattering teeth and blue lips were a pretty good sign that it was time). I think we will be spending quite a bit of time out on our back deck this summer.

Kadin thrilled to be in the pool!

Jeremy showed Kadin how to fully immerse himself in the experience

Kadin was pretty proud of his "crazy hair" after dunking his head

To go with the pool, I got Kadin some goggles. I was putting stuff away today and finally cleaned off the stack of books that had accumulated on the bedside table, but when I went to put them on the bookshelf, it was hard to find room for them. Looking at the books shelved neatly on the shelves and stashed haphazardly in the cupboards below just really made me smile today. The collection in our bedroom now is just the most recent finds, I have several boxes packed away in storage waiting for the day when we have the room to accomodate multiple bookshelves (or maybe the library room of my dreams). I am a book fiend; I can never read enough or have enough. I love to browse the books at Costco to find new titles to look for at the library and every once in a while I'll make a trip to Goodwill to pick up some cheap books! But I have to say my absolute favorite book store is Robert's Books in Lincoln City. Every time we go to the coast we HAVE to make a stop there. Just walking in and smelling the musty, salty air around all those books makes me smile! I can browse in there for hours and find TONS of books that I want, but I always limit myself to a reasonable number (what I think is reasonable anyway; Jeremy may disagree!). I can't wait to go over 4th of July weekend and find some new treasures! I love to hear what other people are reading . . . let me know if you find anything you love!Chelseahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16844597193520880657noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6776654750452579889.post-28468116317048041542009-06-14T09:37:00.000-07:002009-06-14T09:46:25.897-07:00Not much to reportIt's been a LONG time since I have posted on here! Everytime I go to post something, I think about what to write and decide that everything is to boring. Even now when I think back on what we have been doing lately, there is nothing post-worthy.

Oh, well I guess I can think of a one thing. Opus Interactive (Jeremy's work) has been doing some reorganization and restructuring of the employees and in the process, Jeremy got a promotion! He is now VP of Sales and Operations (I hope I got that right!). He is really excited about the opportunity to help steer and build the company; I know he is going to do great! Congratulations to him!!!

Other than that, we have been pretty low-key lately. We have some fun stuff coming up in the next month or so. I am really excited to head to the beach with lots of family to celebrate the 4th of July and then we fly out to Utah to see Jordan get married. I am still amazed that my little brother is getting married . . . guess he's not so little anymore! I am thrilled to have another female added to the Theurer ranks (we will still be outnumbered, but every little bit helps) and I think Molly and Jordan are so great together! I am so excited for the two of them.Chelseahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16844597193520880657noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6776654750452579889.post-39937688136052941892009-05-07T20:52:00.000-07:002009-05-07T21:23:06.158-07:00Fun videos
A little while ago Jeremy got me a Flip, a tiny handheld camera that I can use to take quick little videos of the kids. I LOVE it! We have a larger handheld camera that is great for extended videos, but for everyday use, this Flip is amazing. I can leave it on the counter, throw it in my bag, tuck it in a sweatshirt pocket. and it is right there, ready to grab when the kids do something funny; such as . . .

The first video is the first big laugh that I heard out of Kylee. She was laying on the bed and Kadin was jumping around next to her (with me constantly guarding that he kept jumping around and not on). He jumped up, landed on his butt and she just busted up laughing. They kept going for about 5 minutes and I finally realized that I should get it on camera. I got this last really good one and then she decided that it really wasn't funny anymore.

The second video I took today when I was feeding her applesauce for the first time. We have been giving her rice cereal for a couple weeks because the doctor suggested it might help her cut down on the barfing (which it hasn't) and I decided to try her on something maybe a little more appetizing. She kept making the funniest faces! I love my little baby girl!

Chelseahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16844597193520880657noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6776654750452579889.post-36825757981934263462009-04-14T17:13:00.000-07:002009-04-14T17:21:04.369-07:00Mysteries of the UniverseHow is it that someone as cute as this . . .
makes something as disgusting as this?!?!?!?!?!

Kylee is a constant fountain of urp-age; all day, every day. This is whole new territory for me, Kadin rarely spit up and when he did it was a polite little dribble that barely made it past his chin. Kylee, on the other hand, has mastered nearly every kind of spit-up you can imagine: dribble, spout, projectile . . . let your imagination run wild! And it's not just after she eats, it is ALL the time. Sometimes she is clean for a couple hours after she eats and then out of nowhere, with no provocation . . . URP! She and I both go through about three shirts a day (I should probably just start stapling burp cloths to my shoulder). She has tons of cute clothes, but no one will ever see them because they are always hidden under her gigantic bibs (which somehow can't contain all the urp this little girl has in her). All I can say is YUCK!

Chelseahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16844597193520880657noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6776654750452579889.post-27271661803474723042009-04-14T16:40:00.000-07:002009-04-14T17:13:24.529-07:00EasterHappy Easter! Okay I know I'm late, but really is that such a surprise from me? As always, this weekend was a little chaotic (in a good way) and now I can finally breathe enough to take the time to write about it.

Friday night we had one of Jeremy's old college friends, Amy, come and visit with her husband, Jared. Their story completely breaks my heart and inspires me all at the same time. Five weeks after they got married Jared was in a car accident and was severely brain damaged and paralyzed. Now Amy has full time care of him, while she is trying to finish up her degree at Utah State. Just watching her manuever him out of the car and into our house made me marvel at how much she has taken on and how much I admire her for stepping up to the challenge. This was certainly not the life she signed up for or imagined, but she seems to be rising to the challenge and making the best of what she has been given. I wish I could deal with my own small trials with as much strength.

Saturday, Kadin got up at the crack of dawn (it is a sad day when your 3 month old sleeps longer than your 3 year old!) and came into bed with us. Since he got up so early, we knew he was going to take a nap earlier, but unfortunately he crashed right as we had to go to our ward activity. Both kids were screaming as we headed to the church and I have to admit, it was pretty tempting to swing the car around and head home. But we went, and it turned out pretty well. Kadin got to play with his new favorite person; Matthew. He lives down the street and every day Kadin tells me how much he loves Matthew and how much Matthew loves him. That night Matthew came over with his dad so the boys could play while the dads watched the Lumberjax game. The boys got to dye eggs and fight clankers (Star Wars) and the Lumberjax won; pretty good night.

Sunday we did an Easter egg hunt for Kadin in his room and I got to take a huge nap on the couch with Kylee. I slept a little too long and ended up being totally rushed for church. I didn't get to take the cute pictures of the kids all dressed up like I had planned, but oh well. I can always dress them up during the week! After church we went to Mom and Dad Sherwood's house and had a fantastic Easter dinner with them and Jason and Andi. The car ride down there was a little rough; 12 hours stretched into 14 because of antsy kids and several unplanned stops at McDonald's playplaces to stretch legs. We stopped in Logan first and visited with my Uncle Greg and family and Grandpa and Karen. I was a little paranoid having my active 3 year old in my Grandpa's house (it is a beautiful house and full of gorgeous things just waiting to be broken!), but he did pretty well. Karen invited her kids and grandkids over for dinner while we were there so Kadin got to play with some other kids his age. It was crowded and a little crazy, but so much fun!

After Logan, we went down to Provo to visit the three boys. We were a little frustrated because the snow that wasn't supposed to be there had followed us from Logan to Provo! I was so tired of being cold!!!! We had a great time going out to dinner with the boys, Molly and Hyrum. Everyone came over to our hotel and hung out with us for a while. It was so fun to have everyone together. It was also great to watch my cute little brother Jordan and his fiance Molly together; they are so cute and I am so excited for the two of them!

After another quick stop in Logan, we headed back for home. The ride home went a little bit better, but I still am in no hurry to jump back in a car for an extended period of time with those two kids! They are great kids, but neither one of them travels well. Looks like we'll be sticking close to home for a while!

Fun Videos from our trip:

Kadin and Grandma Theurer playing ball

Kadin playing with Uncle Ben at Apex offices
Chelseahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16844597193520880657noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6776654750452579889.post-71610019574901695682009-03-09T19:41:00.000-07:002009-03-09T19:44:31.825-07:00By the wayFor those who were brave enough to sign up for me to make them something; I am pretty excited! I have it narrowed down to a couple choices, but you will have to wait and see what it will end up being! For Cari, Aimie and Taya, the lucky (we'll see if you still think so after you get your thing!) ones, I need to know what is a favorite quote/scripture of yours and what colors do you like/have in your homes.
ThanksChelseahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16844597193520880657noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6776654750452579889.post-83440410254679931572009-03-09T19:29:00.001-07:002009-03-09T19:38:22.123-07:00Almost doneAs I am writing this, my two-year-old is in the tub and my two-month-old is snuggled up with Daddy downstairs so I have a few blissful moments where I can just sit and take a breath. There is a gigantic pile of laundry next to me waiting to be folded (I am pretty proud of myself; I spent the whole day doing laundry and can now say there is not a dirty piece of laundry anywhere in our house . . . at least for the next hour until Jeremy and I change for bed.), but it is going to keep on waiting!

Our family finally caught the dreaded cold that has been passed around everywhere, but only half of us have been afflicted. Kadin and I have been sniffling and coughing for the last couple days, but Jeremy and Kylee are thus far safe. Let's hope it stays that way; I really don't want to have a sick baby!

Other than that, not a whole lot has been going on in our lives. I am trying to think what is new or exciting and the answer is, truthfully, not much. I am getting antsy for spring and warm weather; both because I hate being cold all the time and because Kadin really needs to get out of the house and be outside to burn off some of his excess energy. But I think that is still a little ways off seeing as how it snowed again today! Nothing stuck, but the gently falling flakes have lost their charm and I would be plenty happy to not see them again anytime soon!

I have found a new obesssion; making bows for Kylee. Thanks Annie and your great online how-to book! I went to the craft store this weekend and picked up a ton of different kinds of ribbon to make Kylee bows to match all her cute clothes. I think I am getting the hang of it and they are turning out pretty cute! I am totally going to be that nerdy mom that has a different colored bow for every outfit, but I'm only going to have a little girl once, so I might as well enjoy it and live it up! I will have to post some pictures of her modeling her clothes and bows; I think she is pretty darn cute, but then again I am biased!Chelseahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16844597193520880657noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6776654750452579889.post-11444732848712753642009-02-25T08:12:00.001-08:002009-02-25T08:14:12.141-08:00Gift give awayOne of my friends had this on her blog and I thought it was a fun idea! I promise not to be horribly offended if no one is interested in something made by me . . . I don't blame you! I just thought it would be fun to see what happened. And if you are brave enough to comment, I promise to use all my creative juices to come up with something fun!

The first Three people to comment on this post will get something made by me! My choice--but just for you. This offer does have some restrictions and limitations:
1. I make no guarantees that you will like what I make!
2. What I create will be just for you.
3. It'll be done this year
4. You will have no clue what it is going to be.
5. I reserve the right to do something extremely strange.
The catch? Oh, the catch is that you must re-post this on your blog. The first 3 people to do so and leave a comment telling me you did, will win a marvelous homemade gift by me! Let the games begin!! Oh, and I have to be able to contact you with mailing information!!! I promise it will be something good!Chelseahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/16844597193520880657noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6776654750452579889.post-1193305359121534392009-02-20T13:25:00.001-08:002009-02-20T13:54:12.477-08:00Here comes the sunI am so excited to have a sunny day! I am so tired of winter and cannot wait for spring to get here. I am ready for warm weather and getting out of the house! I think Kadin is getting anxious for spring too; being cooped up in our house is driving both of us a little crazy.

Jeremy and I had a wonderful Valentine's day weekend at the beach (thank you a million times over to both sets of parents who made it possible for us to have three days of escape). We went to Lincoln City, an old Sherwood/Theurer vacation staple, but we stayed in a new house Jeremy found for us. It was gorgeous! We got to go shopping at the outlet mall (since we were given so many baby clothes, Jeremy was pretty firm on not letting me buy any more. It was so hard to reisist all the adorable baby dresses!!!), eat at our favorite restaurant Mo's, go to my favorite bookstore in the world, Roberts, and just spend time together. The house we stayed in had bikes to ride, so when the weather got nice we took a spin around the neighborhood (until my thighs started to burn and I remembered how out of shape I am). We also got to soak in the hot tub . . . mmmmmmm.

When we came back, I was ready to go back to the business of being a mommy. It's amazing how a little time away can recharge the batteries and remind me of the good things about being home with the two kids. We've had the normal ups and downs like always, but I have a little bit more "oomph" to ride the roller-coaster again.

This is the house we stayed in: "Siren by the Sea"

This bike made me feel like I should be wearing saddle shoes, it looks like something from a 50's movie.
