Last night was ugly . . . well technically this morning. Kylee decided that her day was going to start at the lovely hour of 2 am. Usually, she wakes up, eats and dozes back off for another 3-4 hours. But this morning, she was wide awake and of course wasn't content to just lay in her crib and be fine by herself. After picking her up and putting her down for 2 hours, I just lay in bed and listened to her start to wind up to a nice loud scream and cried. I was so tired and so frustrated. Thankfully, my great husband saw/heard that I was at the end of my rope, so he took over for me for the next couple hours so I could catch a little more sleep and be able to face the day a sane woman.
Tonight is not gearing up to be a whole lot better; Kylee has been really needy and really cranky for the last 3-4 hours and I am hoping that Jeremy can work his magic again and get her to sleep. As I sit here listening to her squawk downstairs, I wonder why we volunteer to lose sleep, be screamed at (in close range no less), and be drenched in regurgitated liquid. Then I read one of my recently discovered blogs (found through a link from one of the other blogs I read); "The Man on the Inside". It is a quadriplegic man who has just had his first child and is writing about his experiences as a first time father and how he is finding ways to work with and around his disability. He wrote today about holding his son and needing to get the binky back into his son's mouth (he used his mouth to guide it back in). As always, the Lord sent me a perspective check right when I needed it; if he can take on an infant without the use of his arms and legs, then I can stop whining and remember that this time is temporary and the joy that Kylee is bringing and will bring is forever.
I don't know if this makes any sense whatsoever; blame the abbreviated sleep!
Never enough time, never enough energy, never enough laughter, never enough love . . . trying to capture the memories in the middle of the madness!

More photos
Here are some of my favorite pictures from the last few days:
This is the first haircut that Kadin has not screamed through the entire thing (he still screamed at the beginning) and has sat on his own; which means that I don't have to get covered in hair trimmings anymore! YEAH!
Right after his haircut, giving Daddy his version of a smile (looks more like a grimace to me!)
Last night, when Kadin and I went in to read the nightly story, he picked "Grouchy Ladybug" and when I started to read it, he grabbed it and told me that he was going to read it to me. Since we have read that book about 9 million times, he could go through and recite the story pretty well from memory. He knew all the animals! It was pretty fun listening to him (and it was nice to have a story read to me for a change!)
Jeremy and I have been sick with a pretty nasty cold these last couple weeks. We were hoping not to pass it on to the kids, but how do you not get close to a newborn who needs to be held and rocked a lot? Kadin escaped, but Kylee did not. She has been snuffly and congested for the last couple days, and today she was having a hard time sleeping because of the congestion. She did great propped up and since I wasn't going to hold her for every single nap she took, she has been sleeping in her carseat today. (P.S. while we have had this cold, I discovered a new favorite thing; tissues with lotion AND Vicks in them. So while you are blowing your nose, you get a nice hit of menthol and added nose clearing! It says something about my life when I get excited about Kleenex!)

I love that Kylee is a redhead! She has the cutest strawberry blonde hair and I hope she keeps it for a while! She is so cute!

Photo catch-up
The last two weeks of our lives, in pictures:
I love this picture of Kylee because she looks like such a bleached blonde surfer baby
My brothers lined her up with some money to show how big she was
Our new family of four!
Devin took Kadin out for some fun in the snow while Jeremy and I were at the hospital

always won because he gave his a little extra "oomph" at the start)
that came in it!
Christmas was fun, but exhausting!
We took advantage of having family and friends in town and blessed Kylee while everyone was here. We couldn't find a Sunday in church when it would work so we got permission to bless her in our home on Sunday night after Christmas. It was such a special time and it was so great to see her surrounded by all those men that love her. I am so grateful to have the priesthood in my family and in my home to have these moments for our family.
The three of us
I love how she holds her hands up to her face when she sleeps

We are slowly getting adjusted to having Kylee in our lives and working out being a family of four instead of three. Jeremy and I are learning to function on less-than-enough sleep and I am nervously looking at Monday when he goes back to work and leaves me alone! Hope everyone else had a great holiday and thanks for all your good wishes and help! Love you all tons!

Wild weekend
I knew that this week before Christmas was going to be crazy . . . but this crazy? I had no idea!
Friday night Jeremy and I had my parents and brothers come over to our house so the boys could play some X-box and Mom and I could make some cards for people. Everything was going great and I went to go crash on the couch for a little while because I was feeling uncomfortable. Jeremy and Jordan went to go get some pizza and when they got back, I got up to go get something to eat. Unfortunately, when I got up there was an uncomfortable wet feeling. To make a long story short; my water had broken. After calling the doctor, Jeremy and I went to the hospital where before we knew what was happening, we were in labor and delivery getting ready to have a baby. We went to the hospital about 8:30 p.m. on Friday night and at 4:41 a.m. Kylee Jean Sherwood was born. At 4 lbs. 8 oz. 17 3/4 inches, she is a tiny little peanut, but completely healthy. She was a great eater right from the start and all of the tests that they ran on her (sugar, bilirubin, etc.) came back with excellent results. So Monday morning, Jeremy, Kylee and I all got to come home! It's been pretty surreal having her here because I was not, and still aren't, completely mentally prepared for her arrival for another 5 weeks. I thought I was going to be able to do all the Christmas stuff and once all that was out of the way, I could focus on getting things ready for a new baby. Kylee had other plans and thankfully, thanks to lots of help from family and friends, we have made the transition much easier than I ever would have thought.
Kadin has been a trooper through all of this. After we disappeared on Friday night, he has been with my parents and brothers. He came to visit us in the hospital a couple times and was pretty intrigued by "baby sister", but I was still preparing myself for the meltdown I was sure was on the way when he figured out that she was a permanent addition to the family. But it still hasn't come! He loves to see "baby sister", talks to her, already wants her to play toys with him . . . basically he has surpassed my expectations once again! I am so blessed to have him!
While all of this madness was going on for us, Portland was having a crisis of its own. We were all excited about the snow fall of last week, thinking that 2-3 inches was pretty amazing for our area. Starting Friday, the real action began. It has been pretty close to blizzard conditions here all weekend and we have accumulated over a foot of snow, if not more! I'm not quite sure how deep it is out there because I haven't been outside since Friday. Everything has been shut down and barely anyone is going anywhere. Kylee picked quite the weekend to make her appearance.
All in all, even though it was unexpected, overwhelming and at moments pretty scary, Kylee's birth has been such a blessing. Since everyone is around for the holiday, a bunch of family got to see her who otherwise might not have. We are also planning on blessing her while all this family is around; what a special experience that will be. And all the family in town provides tons of much needed help and support! The Lord truly is looking after us and answering prayers.
Kadin has been so helpful, covering up Kylee so she doesn't get cold!
Here is our little peanut, I put the remote next to her to give you an idea of just how tiny she really is. Jeremy is afraid to change her diapers, she looks so fragile!
I will put up some better pictures in the next few days. Getting a shower and some bits of sleep have taken precedence over good photos!
